How canthal tilt is measured
- Take a straight-on photo with the face level and relaxed.
- Mark the inner corner of the eye (medial canthus) and the outer corner (lateral canthus).
- Draw a line between the two points and measure its angle against a horizontal line.

What affects how your tilt looks in a photo
- Head angle. Tilting your head changes the measured angle, so keep the face level.
- Expression. Squinting, smiling and raised brows move the eye corners.
- Lighting and lens. Wide-angle phone lenses used close to the face distort proportions.
- Puffiness and tiredness. Swelling around the eyes can make the area look lower or heavier.
What you can and cannot change
Canthal tilt is mostly set by bone structure and the position of the eye corners, so everyday habits will not change it much. What you can influence is how the eye area looks: sleep, hydration, reducing puffiness, grooming your brows and taking photos at a consistent, level angle. Procedures that alter the eye corners are medical decisions, so talk to a qualified professional rather than relying on an app.
